Spotlight Overview

The Spotlight feature in Wazo is designed to shine a light on employees who are making a significant impact within the organization. Unlike everyday recognitions, Spotlights are reserved for standout contributions that go above and beyond—such as leading a critical project, exemplifying company values at an exceptional level, or demonstrating strong leadership during challenging times.

Spotlight moments are public and celebratory in nature. They not only recognize individual excellence but also serve as inspiration for others across the company, reinforcing a culture of high performance and appreciation.

Each Spotlight entry typically includes the employee’s name and role, a clear description of why they are being recognized, the specific achievements or contributions involved, and a timeline indicating when the impact occurred. Spotlights can be initiated by managers, organizational leaders, or system-wide administrators, ensuring that recognition is both meaningful and visible at scale.

How it helps

The Spotlight feature elevates key contributions by making exceptional work visible across the organization. It shines a light on moments of excellence that might otherwise go unnoticed, ensuring that standout efforts receive the recognition they deserve.

By showcasing real examples of high performance, the Spotlight inspires others. Employees gain a clearer understanding of what "going above and beyond" looks like in practice, setting a standard for excellence and motivating peers to strive for similar impact.

For those who are spotlighted, the recognition builds a strong sense of pride and appreciation. It affirms their value and contributions, reinforcing their connection to the organization.

Beyond individual recognition, the feature strengthens company culture. It promotes and normalizes the behaviors and mindsets the organization wants to encourage. In this way, the Spotlight turns great work into visible, memorable moments—making excellence not only celebrated but contagious.

Use Case: Recognizing Leadership During a Crisis

When the IT department faced a major system outage, a mid-level engineer took charge, coordinated the response team, and restored services within hours — minimizing client impact. The manager nominated them for a Spotlight, highlighting their leadership, calm under pressure, and cross-team collaboration. The recognition was posted in the Spotlight section, viewed company-wide, and later referenced during quarterly all-hands meetings. This not only rewarded the employee but also set a standard for proactive leadership.

Impact

  • For employees: Being in the Spotlight is a major recognition moment, boosting morale, personal brand visibility, and internal reputation.
  • For the organization: It strengthens the value system, motivates excellence, and nurtures a culture where contributions are celebrated, not overlooked.

Over time, Spotlights build an archive of success stories — a living showcase of what excellence means at the company.
